In Arriva, we have had the honour of supporting the initiative of the Metrobús [1] in Madrid offering our experience with the Fastrack [2] in Kent, in the United Kingdom.

Autobús de Arriva del sistema Fastrack en Kent (Reino Unido)

Our Executive Director in Spain, Tony Williamson, and myself [Javier Fuentes] had the chance of accompanying the Regional Minister for Transport, Mr. Lamela to Kent to explain the characteristics of this bus based public transport system.

Qualities of Fastrack

Here are some of the notes on the Kent Fastrack that were taken during that visit:

  • New, modern and specialised buses.
  • Reserved lanes to avoid traffic jams.
  • Alternative bus routes to avoid other traffic.
  • Priority at intersections over other vehicles.
  • New bus stops with amenities for the waiting passengers.
  • Connections between key destinations.
  • More frequent services and ample timetable than normal buses.
  • Contrasted and improved timetables.
